The "Future of Climate: Climate of the Future 3" Project, led by Kastamonu University, which specializes in forestry and nature tourism, has been completed.
The project, coordinated by Lecturer Dr. Berkan Güngör, was supported for the third time within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 4004 Nature Education and Science Schools Call and was held between September 1-6, 2025.
The project aimed to increase awareness among young people aged 18-30 from different cities and universities in Turkey regarding environmental and climate change issues. Participants gained knowledge on many topics, including wildlife awareness, sustainable policy development, the state of forest and water resources, sustainable consumption, recycling, disaster management, and governance models.
In addition to the theoretical training provided by expert academics for six days, technical visits to forest fire sites in Daday and Taşköprü were organized to provide participants with field experience. Through brainstorming sessions held at the end of each day, young people had the opportunity to discuss and evaluate the information they had acquired.
On the final day of the project, during the "Workshop and Policy Document Creation" session, young people expressed their proposed solutions to the climate crisis and developed concrete policy recommendations.
Within the scope of the project, which is supported by the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate of Kastamonu Governorate, Daday Municipality, Kastamonu Technopark Inc., Kastamonu Sarı Konak Women's Production and Business Cooperative, and Gölköy Yaşam Resort as stakeholders, a total of 6 workshops and 40 hours of training were conducted.
