As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Kastamonu University and in commemoration of the Acceptance of the March 12 National Anthem and Mehmet Âkif Ersoy's Memorial Day, a meaningful exhibition was organized.
The virtual exhibition titled "In the Footsteps of Independence: In Commemoration of the 105th Year," was prepared with the contributions of the Digital Transformation Student Society and the workshops conducted under the guidance of Assist.Prof.Dr. Sofya Cihan Canbolat, a faculty member of our university's Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Graphic Design, has met with art enthusiasts.
As part of the exhibition, third-year students from the Department of Graphic Design at our University’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, and fourth-year students from the Department of Graphic Arts at Kyrgyzstan-Türkiye Manas University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, reinterpreted the spirit of independence and historical memory embodied in the National Anthem through poster designs.
With the idea that a nation's memory lives not only in history books but also in visual narratives produced through the language of art, the works examine the 105-year-old world of meaning of the National Anthem, penned by Mehmet Âkif Ersoy, from the perspective of young designers. Concepts such as independence, freedom, and national consciousness are presented to the audience using contemporary graphic design approaches.
The exhibition, comprising 50 poster designs by 48 students, serves as a visual bridge between the past and the present. The works featured in the exhibition highlight visual interpretations of independence while also drawing attention to the creative relationship young designers establish with historical consciousness.
The "In Steps of Independence" exhibition brings together young designers from two different universities around a common theme, highlighting the unifying aspect of art. The exhibition also indicates that art production is an experiential field that can be shared not only in physical galleries but also in digital and online environments.
You can access the exhibition online from March 12 to 24 here.
