Kastamonu University has added another new study to its scientific research in environmental and sustainability. The project titled "Analysis of Water Quality at Küre Mountains Azdavay Saray Waterfall using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)," which will be carried out in collaboration with public institutions outside the university, has been approved for funding.
The research project, which will last 16 months and is supported by a budget of 399,742 TL, is being led by Prof. Dr. Ekrem Mutlu, a faculty member at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. In the project, Dr. Elif Seda Özbek is the advisor, and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Evren Erginal, a faculty member at Çanakkale On Sekiz Mart University, is the project coordinator. Researchers include Res. Assist. Büşra Kırcı and Assist. Prof. Dr. Esma Mutlu from Kastamonu University and graduate students Yasin Boztepe and Dilara Kıvanç.
Within the project's scope, the quality of water resources around the Küre Mountains National Park and the Azdavay Saray Waterfall will be evaluated using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with spatial analysis. The scientific data obtained from the study will contribute to protecting the region's natural resources, monitoring water quality, and developing sustainable environmental strategies. Additionally, water quality parameters and metal distribution will be revealed using GIS-based mapping and visualization techniques during the analysis process.
Kastamonu University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal emphasized that the project is in line with the university's sustainability policies, stating the following:
Our university continues transforming its accumulated academic knowledge into concrete projects focused on the environment, ecology, and sustainability. The Küre Mountains and the Azdavay Saray Waterfall are important to Kastamonu's natural heritage. The scientific examination of the water quality in this valuable area will be a guiding light for both environmental protection and local government policies. Congratulations to our project team, and I wish them success in their work. "
