Kastamonu University continues to increase its contributions to the national and international scientific community with a new project supported by TÜBİTAK. The project, prepared under the guidance of Assist. Prof. Dr. Serbun Ufuk Değer, a member at Kastamonu Vocational School, was awarded support under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Fast Support Program.
As part of a 10-month project with a budget of 68,212 TL, the aim is to develop a new synthetic data generation method called "ABP-SMOTE" to produce more reliable and realistic artificial data in imbalanced datasets.
The project team includes Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur Değer from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Mersin University, and Lect. Hakan Can from Kastamonu Vocational School, Kastamonu University, as researchers.
The method to be developed aims to address the shortcomings of existing SMOTE-based methods by combining difference equations with percentile integration. The outputs obtained will be of a quality that can be used in many areas, such as health, finance, cybersecurity, and social media analysis.
In his assessment of the project, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated the following: This project, which showcases the research capacity and scientific productivity of our university, will make significant contributions to our country in the field of artificial intelligence and data science.
Developing innovative methods that can be used in critical areas such as healthcare and cybersecurity will add value to both academia and society. I congratulate the project team for their efforts in this success and wish them outstanding achievements in their work. "
Our Rector also expressed gratitude to YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and YÖK members for their support of high-quality research in higher education, and to TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın for their encouragement of university projects.
