Kastamonu University continues to make significant academic contributions in the field of health technologies. In the project supported by TÜBİTAK's 1002-A Rapid Support Program, Lecturer Merve Özkan from our university is participating as a researcher.
The project titled "Detection of Colorectal Cancer on Histopathological Images Using Basic Models" is being carried out by Associate Professor Dr. Caner Özcan, a faculty member at Karabük University's Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, and Lecturer Merve Özkan from our university's Taşköprü Vocational School's Department of Computer Technologies. Merve Özkan, who is also pursuing doctoral studies at Karabük University, is working as a researcher on the project.
The project aims to develop an artificial intelligence-based decision support system that can automatically analyze histopathological images used in the diagnosis of colon cancer.
Upon completing the study, the goal is to establish a domestic artificial intelligence infrastructure that delivers rapid and accurate results in colon cancer diagnosis.
The developed model is expected to detect cell structure damage and morphological changes with high accuracy, and to support diagnostic processes by reducing the workload of pathologists through the use of self-supervised learning methods.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, made the following remarks in his evaluation of the project:
In addition to its educational activities, our university also conducts research in the fields of health and technology. This project will contribute to both the academic field and healthcare services as a high-quality study on the application of artificial intelligence in cancer diagnosis.
We would like to thank our academician and all the academics involved in the project for their efforts and wish them success in their work. "
Our Rector stated that the system to be developed is expected to be structured in a way that can be integrated into healthcare institutions in the future, and expressed that our University's support for scientific research will be continued with determination. He also thanked YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and YÖK members for their support of research activities in higher education, as well as TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın for their project support.
