Under the supervision of Assist. Prof.Dr. Sedat Gökmen from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Kastamonu University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the project titled "Investigation of the Presence of Microplastics, a Hidden Danger in Frequently Used Drugs and Biological Products in Veterinary Medicine" has been deemed eligible for support under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program.
In the project, which will last for 12 months and is supported with 80,000 TL, Assist. Prof.Dr. Veysel Doğan from our university, Prof. Dr. Dilek Güvenç, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gediz Uğuz from Ondokuz Mayıs University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Gül from Fırat University are participating as researchers.
In the project, it will be investigated whether the plastic materials used in the packaging of products, especially those administered parenterally (by injection), pass into the animal body as microplastics. Animal products like meat, milk, and eggs also carry these substances to humans, thereby posing a health risk. The research team aims to fill an important gap not only in the safety of products used in veterinary medicine with this project but also in terms of food safety and public health.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, congratulated the academic team that brought the project to life and thanked all the researchers who contribute to our University's scientific production capacity. Additionally, our Rector expressed his gratitude to the President of the Higher Education Council, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the YÖK members for their support of scientific research and projects, and he also extended his thanks to the President of TÜBİTAK, Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, for his contributions to encouraging researchers.
We congratulate our faculty members and wish them continued success.
