The 2025 season of the Kastamonu Province, Inebolu-Bozkurt-Abana Districts Surface Survey (KİBAYA) Project, which provides new data on the rich history of Kastamonu, has been successfully completed. The studies were conducted in the districts of Abana and Bozkurt.
The project, led by the Head of the Department of Archaeology at Kastamonu University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Asena Kızılarıslanoğlu, was accompanied by the Ministry Representative, Archaeologist Ümit Kemal Parlak, an expert from Amasra Museum. From our university, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Eroğlu, Lecturer Özgür Yeni, Archaeologist Berkay Kavak, and Dilek Saraç also participated in the research team.
The project, conducted with the permission of the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, was carried out with the support of our University, the Abana District Governorate, and the Abana Municipality. As part of their work, the six-person team visited villages in the Abana and Bozkurt districts step by step, researching traces of the region's ancient history.
This research led to discovering findings that go back about 2300 years. Additionally, village headmen and locals were brought together in meetings hosted by the District Governorships of Abana and Bozkurt to discuss the significance of cultural assets, sustainable conservation techniques, and the goal and scope of the research.
