The invention titled "Hydrogen Production from Ferromagnetic Biocar Catalyst with Nd-Conditioning," developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Didar Değermenci from Kastamonu University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Environmental Engineering, and Prof. Dr. İshak Efşin Kariper from Erciyes University, has been registered as a patent by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
Under the patent, a special catalyst used in hydrogen production is pre-prepared with the help of a magnetic field, and a magnet is also utilised during the production process. This way, it is aimed to ensure the catalyst works more efficiently, reduce the adhesion of particles to each other, and accelerate the reaction process.
In the experiments conducted, it was determined that the time to reach the production of 25 millilitres of hydrogen could be reduced from approximately 102 minutes to 54 minutes. It was also stated that the developed method aims to produce hydrogen at approximately 25 degrees Celsius.
In the experiments, hydrogen was obtained using water and sodium borohydride, and it was recorded that approximately 25-26 millilitres of hydrogen were produced with 10 milligrams of catalyst and 0.04 grams of sodium borohydride.
It was noted that the catalyst used in the system consists of a carbon-based porous structure and magnetic nanoparticles, emphasising that this structure provides the catalyst with a large surface area and allows it to be controlled by a magnetic field.
It is aimed that the developed invention will contribute to reducing some significant problems encountered in hydrogen production. It was stated that the developed magnetic method aims to reduce the decrease in production speed caused by the adhesion of catalyst particles to each other and the clogging of pores over time.
It is anticipated that the method will be extended beyond the laboratory scale in the future, and it could be used in portable energy systems, hydrogen production in emergencies, field-type hydrogen generators, and various technological applications.

Prof. Dr. Gökçe Didar Değermenci and Prof. Dr İshak Afşin Kariper on the patent registration, wishing them continued success.
