Kastamonu University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital continues to meet the needs of cattle owners in the region. Most recently, a 3-day-old calf with a front left leg fracture, which was determined to have occurred during birth, was brought to the hospital and repaired through a successful treatment process. Initial evaluations revealed that the calf's fracture was open and infected.
As a result of clinical and radiographic examinations conducted by the faculty members of the Department of Surgery at the Veterinary Faculty, it was observed that the infection in the calf's leg had advanced. In the first phase of the treatment process, medical treatment was administered to control the infection. At this stage, the calf's overall health condition was closely monitored, and necessary medications and supportive treatments were provided.
The calf's general health improved once the infection was under control, and it was ready for surgery. With a successful operation performed by the faculty members, the calf's broken leg was repaired. The meticulous work of the veterinarians during this challenging process ensured that the calf's leg healed and prevented the loss of function.
Following the treatment, the calf began to use its leg, and its overall health condition remained good, according to regular checkups. The calf, which is now 3 months old, continues to live healthily. The animal owner expressed extreme satisfaction with the treatment process and the results.
The Animal Hospital within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine continues to contribute to regional livestock farming with its strong technical infrastructure and expert staff.
