The study titled "Production of FeAlSiMn Electrical Steel by Adding Different Alloy Elements Using Powder Metallurgy Method," which was applied for under the ownership of Kastamonu University and whose inventors are Assoc.Prof. Dr. Yücel Çetinceviz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akkaş, faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, has been registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
Within the scope of the patent, FeAlSiMn-based electrical steel was produced using powder metallurgy and modified with various alloying elements, including Co, Ni, Cu, and Cr. The mechanical, electrical, and magnetic properties of samples obtained by the hot pressing method were examined in detail. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the alloy with added Cu, in particular, exhibited lower hysteresis loss and higher magnetic flux density.
The findings revealed that the developed material can be utilized in various electrical engineering applications, including transformers, motors, generators, and electromagnetic cores. The aim of the patent study is to contribute to reducing external dependence in the field of electrical materials and increasing high-value-added domestic production. Additionally, the aim is to offer significant gains to the industry through the development of longer-lasting and lower-cost electrical steels.
Commenting on the issue, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, highlighted the strategic importance of such studies conducted at universities, using the following words: Every patent produced at our university is an indicator of academic knowledge being transformed into tangible outputs. This study, developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Çetinceviz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akkaş is extremely valuable both in terms of his scientific quality and his potential for industrial application. Such innovative studies developed with local resources contribute to our University's research and innovation vision.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, also thanked the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, Prof. Dr. M. Zeki Durak, for their support of R&D studies.
