Kastamonu University Faculty of Medicine has added a new achievement to its success in the field of scientific research. The project, led by Assist. Prof. Hakan Küçüksayan, a faculty member of the Department of Medical Biology, has been granted support under the TÜBİTAK 1001 – Program for Supporting Scientific and Technological Research Projects.
The project titled "Investigation of the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP)-mediated regulatory role of HOXC4 transcription factor in the resistance of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer to tamoxifen" aims to contribute to the identification of new therapeutic targets, particularly in breast cancer patients who develop resistance to hormone therapies.
The research team includes Assist. Prof. Dr. Nurtaç Sarıkaş and Assist. Prof. Dr. Erhan Bayrak from Kastamonu University Faculty of Medicine, as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ertan Küçüksayan from Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University. The project aims to both provide new perspectives on cancer biology and contribute to the scientific development of medical students by offering them practical research experience.
Scholarship support for project participants will encourage active participation in the research procedures. The project also seeks to develop skilled human resources by offering real research experience to medical students interested in pursuing an academic career in basic sciences.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, made the following statements about the project: "Our institution views it as a vital role to foster a culture of research in all subjects, particularly health sciences, to encourage scientific production, and to increase the generation of information that will benefit humanity. The significant TÜBİTAK success of our Faculty of Medicine is extremely valuable in terms of demonstrating both our scientific competence and the level of our research infrastructure. This project will not only make significant contributions to the scientific community but also to our students who aim to pursue academic careers in the fundamental sciences."
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, congratulated the academic team involved in the project, especially the project coordinator, Assist. Prof. Hakan Küçüksayan, and thanked them for their contribution to our University's scientific production capacity. Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the members of YÖK for their support of scientific research, and to the President of TÜBİTAK, Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, for his encouraging contributions.
