The patent titled "Production and Method of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) with Nano Additive-Reinforced Adhesive," invented by Prof. Dr. Alperen Kaymakcı, a faculty member in the Department of Forest Industry Engineering at Kastamonu University Faculty of Forestry, and Kadir Doğan, a doctoral graduate in Forest Industry Engineering, has been registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
This method, developed under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Kaymakcı, is obtained by adding nano additives such as magnesium oxide (MgO), zinc dioxide (ZnO), and silicon dioxide (SiO₂) to traditional adhesives. In this way, the produced panels become both more durable and long-lasting, aiming to increase resistance to fire, moisture, and mold. Additionally, a safer building material is presented for the environment and human health by reducing formaldehyde emissions.
Thanks to this registered invention, our University aims to contribute to domestic and environmentally friendly production in sustainable forest products, technologies, and innovative building materials manufacturing.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that the patent is a result of the scientific research and applied studies conducted at our University, and said the following: This patent is a practical outcome of the studies conducted at our University in the fields of forest products and sustainable materials technologies. I congratulate our faculty member, Prof. Dr. Alperen Kaymakcı, and our doctoral graduate, Kadir Doğan, for their efforts. "
Our Rector also thanked the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office President, Prof. Dr. M. Zeki Durak, for their support of R&D studies.
