Kastamonu University was included in the 2025 Leiden Ranking, one of the world's leading academic ranking organizations, for the first time.
Our university, evaluated in the Open Edition category of the Leiden Ranking, ranked 2,129th globally, 649th in Europe, and 68th in Türkiye based on the 2025 results. In area-based assessments, "Life and Earth Sciences" stood out as a notable area of focus. In this field, our university is ranked 1,203rd globally, 360th in Europe, and 24th in Türkiye.
In other areas, our university's rankings were as follows: In the field of Biomedical and Health Sciences, our university ranked 1,842nd globally, 581st in Europe, and 77th in Türkiye. It is ranked 1,839th globally in the field of Physical Sciences and Engineering, 548th in Europe, and 60th in Türkiye. The Leiden Ranking, which evaluates the scientific research performance of universities based on objective indicators such as publication quality, citation rate, and international collaborations, is considered one of the most prestigious rankings measuring academic performance worldwide.
With these results, Kastamonu University has successfully been represented in seven different ranking organizations, including the Round University Ranking (RUR) and Leiden Ranking, in addition to the five international ranking organizations it was included in as of 2024.
Commenting on the issue, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, emphasized our University's research-based development vision, stating the following: “Being included in the Leiden Ranking is an important indicator for making our university's scientific productivity visible internationally. Thanks to the dedicated work of our academic staff, we continually increase our research capacity each year. To ensure this progress is sustainable, we will continue to support high-quality scientific research and international collaborations. "
