Kastamonu University hosted the U17, Youth, and Senior Open Sabre Tournament, organized by the Turkish Fencing Federation, as part of the 2024-2025 activity calendar. The three-day event, held at our university's Ayyıldız Sports and Life Center from May 16-18, 2025, saw a total of 379 athletes from different age categories participate.
In the U17 Women's Sabre category, Duru Ayşe Özgönül won the championship, while Irmak Şenoğlu took second place. Defne Salman and Hayat Gündoğan shared third place. In the men's category, Candeniz Berrak won the gold medal; Arda Takka won silver, and Tuna Çalışkan and Emir Karagülle shared the bronze medal.
In the Junior Women’s Sabre category, the first place went to Nergis Ada Kabadere, while Irmak Şenoğlu came in second, and Elif Çınar Koçak and Zehra Kerem took third place. In the men's category, Furkan Yama took first place, Candeniz Berrak took second, and Enes Talha Kalender and Poyraz Kümük took third.
The athletes who placed received their medals from the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Vice President of the Turkish Fencing Federation, Prof. Dr. Bilgehan Baydil, and a member of the Central Referee Board and International Referee, Yasemin Yeltekin.
In the Senior Women's Sabre category, the championship went to Begüm Alkaya, while Nil Güngör took second place, and Zehra Kerem and İrem Güner shared third place. Muhammed Furkan Kalender won the gold medal in the Senior Men's Sabre category. In second place was Âdem Doruk Küpeli, while Candeniz Berrak and Enes Talha Kalender shared third place.
The medals were presented to the athletes who ranked in the tournament by our Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kaymakcı, the Head of the Health, Culture, and Sports Department, Mehmet Aygül, and the President of the Turkish Fencing Federation, Abdurrahman Karataş.
