The Folk Dances Community of Kastamonu University became the runner-up in Türkiye in the Artistic Branch of the Horon Type 1 category at the Folk Dances Türkiye Championship, organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation (TÜSF) as part of the UNILIG Summer SportsFest.
Between June 16-19, 2026, in Antalya, hosted by Akdeniz University, 647 athletes from 24 universities across Türkiye competed in the championship. Over four days, university teams performed folk dances from different regions to earn rankings and keep cultural heritage alive.
The Folk Dance Community, composed of students from different faculties and schools of our university, performed folk dances from the Trabzon region in the Artistic Branch Horon Type 1 category. Our team, which won a silver medal with its harmonious and successful performance, placed second in Türkiye.
In the Artistic Branch Horon Type 1 category, Giresun University won first place, and Karadeniz Technical University won third place. During the championship held as part of the UNILIG Summer SportsFest, university athletes came together not only for the competitions but also for social and cultural events. The organization, which brought together sports and cultural values, was the setting for colorful performances of folk dances from different regions of Türkiye.
