Kastamonu Technopark, established within Kastamonu University with contributions from public institutions and the private sector, began its journey in 2020 by accepting its first company. By 2025, it will have transformed into a regional-scale technology and R&D ecosystem.
The developments achieved in various areas, including physical infrastructure, human resources, entrepreneurship, and commercialization, over the past five years since its establishment, highlight the role Kastamonu Technopark plays in university-industry cooperation.
Kastamonu Technopark, established by a 2018 decision of the Council of Ministers and incorporated and operational by the end of 2019, welcomed its first companies in May 2020.
In the subsequent process, Kastamonu Technopark, which continued to grow especially with infrastructure investments, significantly increased its institutional capacity with the 5,834-square-meter Administrative Building and Incubation Center that became operational in January 2022. The Presidential Decree published in 2021, which increased the Technology Development Zone area to approximately 110,000 square meters, paved the way for long-term growth targets. Planning studies for the expansion area were completed in 2022, and a building permit was obtained in 2023.
As of 2025, the number of companies operating in Kastamonu Technopark has reached 43. In the sectoral distribution of companies, the software and information technology sector stood out with a rate of 42.5%; areas such as forest products, manufacturing, engineering, architecture, and computer technologies were also among the topics reflecting the region's production and research potential. In this context, free consulting and application services are being offered to companies, and the support provided is also contributing to connecting companies with investors.
The Idea and Business Development Support Office (FİDE), which operates to develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem, provided support to young entrepreneurs through pre-incubation and incubation programs. Hundreds of participants were reached through education, mentorship, and discussion programs conducted during the 2021-2025 period. During this process, 10 different products reached the commercialization stage, while the startups within the Technopark achieved rankings and championships at TEKNOFEST and various national competitions.
The Social Responsibility Projects Office, which aims to combine technological production with social benefit, was also implemented in collaboration with the Technopark and the Technology Transfer Office. Out of 187 project applications received by the Social Office, 160 accepted studies were carried out, with contributions from 96 academics and 64 students, laying the groundwork for technology-based social impact projects.
