Kastamonu University Central Library continues to contribute to the educational and research activities of our university with its physical facilities, digital infrastructure, and accessible services.
Our Central Library, which benefits not only our students, academic and administrative staff, but also external users, serves with its structure open to interaction with the university community.
According to 2025 data, the total number of users benefiting from the Central Library reached 434,516. The library, which sees heavy use throughout the year, was particularly popular among our students as a study area, especially during exam periods. Quiet study halls, individual and group study areas, and physical conditions suitable for long-term use supported students' study and research processes.
The Central Library includes reading and study halls, individual and group study rooms, a research unit with a smart library system, and thesis and academic archives. Thanks to the smart library system, users can easily perform catalog browsing, access resources, and complete borrowing transactions digitally. The research unit, on the other hand, provides suitable study areas where users can efficiently continue their research and homework studies.
In line with the concept of university-community integration, the Central Library offers open services to researchers from outside our province, as well as to those who wish to pursue studies. In 2025, 23,073 external users benefited from the Central Library. With the visitor card practice, external users can benefit from reading rooms, print and electronic resources, reference services, and wireless internet services.
The Central Library, which regularly updates its collection to support academic publications and research activities, provides resources for studies conducted in different disciplines with its collection of 404,637 electronic resources, 83,398 books, 887 periodicals, and 2,759 theses. Electronic databases and digital resources are available to users both on campus and through authorized remote access.
As part of accessibility studies, the Central Library was awarded the "Accessibility in Space Award" within the framework of the 2023 Barrier-Free University Awards. Our library has arrangements and physical access practices in place for individuals with disabilities.
Commenting on the issue, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that libraries are one of the fundamental elements of universities' academic infrastructure.
Stating that our university's Central Library is effectively used by students, academics, and researchers, our Rector said that, “Our Central Library has a wide range of uses, from students' study processes to the research of our academics. With the physical facilities and digital resources provided, our library directly contributes to the educational and research activities of our University. In addition, in line with the concept of university-community integration, our Central Library serves as an open environment for information and learning for everyone. The increase in user numbers shows that the infrastructure investments made were worthwhile and that our library successfully fulfills its function.”
