The Department of Special Education has been established within the Faculty of Education at Kastamonu University. With the quota approval from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the department will accept its first students in the 2025-2026 academic year as the Special Education Teaching Bachelor's Program. The program will accept 24 students this year.
The Faculty of Education, which has maintained its teacher training tradition since 1956, aims to train qualified teachers in the field of special education by combining its deep-rooted experience with a contemporary understanding of teaching.
Commenting on the issue, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that the establishment of the Department of Special Education within the Faculty of Education is a gain for both the university and the region.
Our rector stated, "We aim to train well-equipped teachers who can meet the needs of the times and will be involved in the education of individuals with special needs. This step, aimed at extending our university's teacher training tradition to the field of special education, will contribute to our higher education system.
