A conference was held by the Kastamonu Probation Directorate to raise awareness within the scope of the 15th July Democracy and National Unity Day. The Kastamonu Courthouse Conference Hall hosted the event, which had a large turnout and featured Prof. Dr. Şerif Demir, Head of the History Department at Kastamonu University, as a speaker.
The program, which began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, included a recitation of the Quran by Institutional Preacher Fazıl Acar. Then, Prof. Dr. Demir gave a presentation shedding light on the historical struggle between coups and democracy in Türkiye.
In his speech, Demir, who evaluated the military interventions experienced from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic in a historical context, emphasized that the treacherous coup attempt on July 15 was much bloodier and more destructive than other coups. In his speech, Demir emphasized the damage caused by coups to the rule of law, social peace, and the will of the people, and stated that the resistance shown by the people on the night of July 15 was a strong indication of the will to uphold democracy in Türkiye.
Stating that the bodies standing in front of the tanks demonstrated the love of the homeland and determination of this nation, Demir expressed that all coups leave deep scars in society and cannot be justified by any reason.
At the end of the conference, the Director of Probation Services, İlker Öcal, stated that such events serve an important function in developing individuals' awareness of democracy and preserving historical memory.
