The project "Temporal and Spatial Analysis of Hegemonic Relations in Geographic Information Production," led by Assist.Prof.Dr. Suat Yazan, a faculty member in the Department of Geography at Kastamonu University's Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, has been awarded support under the TÜBİTAK 3501 – Career Development Program.
The project aims to examine the temporal and spatial dimensions of the Anglo-American-centered structure that influences the production and circulation of knowledge in the discipline of geography. The project examines, particularly in light of quantitative data, the decisive role of the US and the UK in academic publishing and scientific standards, especially after World War II.
Within the scope of this study, articles published between 2000 and 2025 in seven international general geography journals considered prestigious in their field will be analyzed using bibliometric methods.
The project aims to offer an objective and comprehensive perspective on the literature by addressing the geopolitics of knowledge production in the discipline of geography from a holistic, temporal, and spatial approach. The findings are expected to provide a basis for assessments regarding the current state and future of global geographic information production.
In the project, Associate Professor Dr. Erdem Bekaroğlu (Department of Geography, Faculty of Language, History, and Geography, Ankara University) and Assistant Professor Dr. Ceyda Kurtar Anlı (Department of Geography, Faculty of Language, History, and Geography, Ankara University) are participating as researchers.
In his assessment of the project, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that they were pleased that the scientific studies conducted at our University were receiving recognition at the national and international levels. Our Rector emphasized the importance of young academics contributing original research to the literature, in support of our University's research vision.
Our Rector also congratulated the project manager, Assistant Professor Dr. Suat Yazan, and researchers, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem Bekaroğlu and Assist.Prof.Dr. Ceyda Kurtar Anlı, who contributed to the project, wished for the successful completion of the study.
