Kastamonu University continues its work with social responsibility projects. Under the Erasmus+ European Solidarity Corps (ESC30) program, the project titled "Supporting Girls in Rural Areas with Judo" was organized on April 30 - May 1, 2026. During the events, Hülya Şenyurt, the first female athlete to win a medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, met with 50 girls living in rural areas.
During events organized as part of the project, Olympic Champion Şenyurt answered questions from female students passionate about judo on April 30, 2026, in the Faculty of Theology Conference Hall. During the interview, Şenyurt shared his experiences in sports, emphasizing that sports are not just about physical success, saying, "The most important strength on the road to success is believing in oneself." Many difficulties arose along my journey, but thanks to my determination and discipline, I reached my goals. "Don't give up on your dreams either,"
On the second day of the events, in the training sessions held at the Central Sports Hall, Hülya Şenyurt, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bayram Ceylan, and Res. Asst. Hasan Basri Taşkın demonstrated the basic techniques of judo to the participants in a practical manner.
During the training sessions on the mat, participants had the opportunity to experience fundamental values such as discipline, respect, and self-confidence, as well as the technical aspects of judo.
As part of the project, workshops aimed at raising environmental awareness and informational meetings for families were also held. With the Horma Canyon trip organized as part of the program, participants had the opportunity to experience the discipline of sports in harmony with nature.
