The Science Café events, organized by Kastamonu University in coordination with the Higher Education Council and the Science Communication Office, aimed at bringing academic knowledge to society and began on June 27, 2025, at the historic Living Museum and City Archive of our University.
The first event organized under the coordination of the Science Communication Office took place with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erol Tekin from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, featuring a talk titled "An Idea Changes the World."
Our university's Press and Publication Advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selver Mertoğlu, emphasized that universities are not only centers where knowledge is produced but also where it is brought to society. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mertoğlu stated that the purpose of the Science Communication Offices established within universities is to connect scientific knowledge with the public, and she said the following:
"We aim to bring science to a platform where everyone can understand, question, and contribute. As Kastamonu University, we see it as our responsibility to share our scientific knowledge not only with academic circles but also with society, the youth, and all our stakeholders."
The first guest speaker of the event was Assoc. Dr. Erol Tekin, a faculty member from our University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. In his speech during the interview, Tekin emphasized the role of individual ideas in social transformation and stated that entrepreneurship should be evaluated not only in economic terms but also in sociological, psychological, and technological dimensions.
Saying that entrepreneurship arises from social needs and contributes to economic and scientific development, Tekin stated, "An idea has the potential to change the world." However, not everyone with money can be an entrepreneur. He stated, "Sustainability, competition, and proper resource utilization form the foundation of entrepreneurship."
Stating that Turkey has a rich potential in terms of natural resources and human and capital resources, Tekin emphasized that entrepreneurs can provide social benefit by using these resources correctly. He stated that successful ventures are initiated by individuals who accurately analyze the customer's expectations and psychology and who read the timing and context well.
In the event, which saw intense participation, the attendees were also interactively involved in the process. At the end of the discussion, which emphasized the importance of transforming scientific production into social benefit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erol Tekin was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his contributions.
