The Kastamonu Wonderful Indonesia (KHAYA) program, organized to promote the rich heritage of Indonesian culture and increase intercultural interaction, was held with high participation at Kastamonu University.
The program was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, General Coordinator of External Relations M. Öztürk Akcaoğlu, Head of Health, Culture and Sports Department Mehmet Sena Aygül, Advisor to the Indonesian Student Community Dr. Osman Topaçoğlu, as well as our faculty members and students.
During the registration and welcome section held before the program, guests completed their entry procedures and received their event tickets, as well as welcome gifts unique to Indonesia.
In the Batik x Ebru Workshop held before the opening, participants had the opportunity to experience basic batik application with the team. During the workshop, an interactive environment was created by providing information about the meanings and cultural background of Indonesian batik motifs.
At the food stall set up in the event area, guests were offered a variety of food and drinks from Indonesian cuisine. Participants had the opportunity to taste the country's traditional flavors.
The program began with an opening speech by Dr. Osman Topaçoğlu, the advisor to the Indonesian Student Community. In his speech, Topaçoğlu mentioned the event's contribution to cultural sharing and thanked those who contributed to the organization.
Afterward, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, addressed the participants. In his speech, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, highlighted the historical, cultural, and humanitarian ties between Türkiye and Indonesia, emphasizing that universities play a significant role in fostering this friendship. Stating that our university views internationalization not only as a goal but also as a responsibility, our Rector said that 1,741 international students from 62 different countries are studying at our university.
Stating that the 114 Indonesian students studying at our university constitute the fourth-largest international student group, our Rector emphasized that Indonesian students are not only a part of academic life but also bring their own culture and values to campus life.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that they aim to increase cooperation with Indonesia in the fields of education, science, and culture, and expressed his hope that the KHAYA program would contribute to the friendship between the two countries.
Later in the program, Jawair Ulwan, President of the Kastamonu Indonesian Students Association, and Hasan Abdurrouf Morgono, President of KHAYA Events, took the floor to discuss the purpose of the KHAYA program, the preparation process, and its contributions to intercultural interaction.
Following the opening speeches, a plaque presentation ceremony was held. Jawair Ulwan, President of the Kastamonu Indonesian Students Association, presented a plaque to our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal. Event President Hasan Abdurrouf Morgono presented a plaque to Dr. Osman Topaçoğlu, Advisor to the Indonesian Student Community. Following the ceremony, the Tumpeng Cutting Ceremony, a symbol of unity and sharing in Indonesian culture, was held.
The program began with cultural dance performances. The event continued with cultural performances after an announcement by Vice President Malikha Basca Biwanti. The show brought Indonesia's cultural journey from the past to the present to the stage through drama theater performances about Indonesia's independence struggle, performed in Turkish, and traditional cultural dance shows. The stage narratives, reflecting the historical process, conveyed the Indonesian people's struggle for independence to the audience within an artistic framework.
Performances featuring cultural elements from various regions of the country were presented through a harmonious combination of music, rhythm, and dance. The performances, which reflected stories from various regions of the country, offered the audience a visual and auditory feast with their diverse movement and sound. The stage performance about Indonesia's struggle for independence was also highly praised by the audience.
