Kastamonu University was entitled to be accredited for two years during the board meeting held on March 21, 2025, as part of the 2024 Institutional Accreditation Program conducted by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK).
In this context, the ceremony held on June 20, 2025, at the 100th Year Conference Hall of Ankara University by YÖKAK for the 22 higher education institutions accredited under the Institutional Accreditation Program was attended by the rectors, administrators, and quality unit heads of the accredited universities.
On behalf of our university, the ceremony was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal; Vice Rector Responsible for Quality, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan; Deputy Quality Coordinator, Dr. Sena İrem Orhan; and the Chair of the Quality Coordination Research and Development Commission, Prof. Dr. Alperen Kaymakcı.
Speaking at the opening of the ceremony, YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak emphasized that higher education is undergoing a significant transformation process with the development of artificial intelligence technologies. Emphasizing that artificial intelligence applications need to be integrated into social sciences as well as natural sciences to survive in the future, Kocabıçak highlighted the importance of universities developing sustainability and renewable energy-focused programs and imparting green skills to students. Kocabıçak also stated that Turkey has significant potential in terms of its young population and emphasized the necessity of focusing on qualitative rather than quantitative development in universities.
Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak stated that there are nearly 7 million university students in Turkey, of whom 334,000 are international students. Mentioning that the records of accredited universities are entered into the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) database, he pointed out the importance of institutional accreditation in terms of international equivalence.
After the speeches, Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak presented the Institutional Accreditation Certificate to our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal.
In his evaluation after the ceremony, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, emphasized that they continue their goals of quality in education and institutional development in light of scientific data. Our Rector appreciated all academic and administrative personnel, students, and stakeholders who contributed to the process, stating that the primary objective for the next two years is to transform this accreditation process into a five-year complete accreditation in the evaluation.
Our Rector also expressed gratitude to YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak and YÖKAK members for their support throughout the process; he thanked YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and YÖK members for their contributions to the implementation of quality-focused strategies.
