Kastamonu University students won a total of seven awards, including one second place and six honorable mentions, in the 4th "Reaching and Accessible Türkiye 2053" Inter-University R&D Idea Competition organized by the Transportation, Maritime and Communication Research Center Presidency (UDHAM) under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. With this result, our university became the second university to win the most awards in the competition, following Gazi University.
A large number of students from different universities in Türkiye participated in the competition, organized in the categories of road, railroad, maritime, communication, and aviation-space, with their project ideas. In the competition, which included 816 students from 87 universities, 575 projects were evaluated. In the competition organized to guide young people toward research and development activities and to support innovative ideas that will contribute to the future of the transportation sector, our University stood out among the universities, winning seven awards.
Students Nurdan Pehlivan and Zeynep Börekci from the Department of Computer Engineering at our university's Faculty of Engineering and Architecture won the second prize in the railroad category with their project titled "Safe and Verifiable BLE-Based Tactile Alert System for Dual Sensory Impaired Individuals in Rail Systems."
Muhammed Sakallı, a student in the Department of Civil Engineering at the same faculty, was awarded an honorable mention in the highway category for his project titled "Living Road 2053: Sustainable Transportation Infrastructure with Self-Healing Concrete Technology," prepared under the supervision of Res. Assist. İhsan Türkel.
Selçuk Çelik, a student in the Department of International Trade and Logistics at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, won an honorable mention award in the aviation-aerospace category with his project titled "Green Supply Chain in Aviation: SAF," prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Erol Tekin.
From the same department, Şükrannaz Pekşen received an honorable mention in the maritime category for her project titled "Underwater Autonomous Storage and Passive Cooling System," which was prepared under the supervision of Assist.Prof.Dr. Nazlıcan Dindarik. Muhammet Emin Çalışkan was awarded an honorable mention in the railroad category for his project titled "Logistics on Reinforced Rails: A Strong and Leading Türkiye on the Railway," developed under the supervision of Assist.Prof.Dr. Nazlıcan Dindarik.
Students İsmail Ünal, Hasan Kurt, and Enes Aydın from the Department of Aviation Management at our university's School of Civil Aviation, under the supervision of Dr. Assist.Prof.Dr. Şafak Aktemur won an honorable mention award in the road category with their project titled "Türkiye's Next Generation Magnetic Logistics Corridor."
The same department students, Reyhan Uçar and Sıla Şimşek, were awarded an honorable mention in the communication category for their project titled "Autonomous Drone Transportation Network and Micro Airport Network for Disaster Areas," developed under the supervision of Dr. Assist.Prof.Dr. Öztürk Özdemir Kanat.
Our university, which won awards in all competition categories, ranked second among universities with the most awards, behind Gazi University with a total of seven.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, stated that the success achieved by our students is gratifying for our University and congratulated our students who won awards in the competition, as well as their supervising academicians.
Our Rector, who stated that they will continue to support our students' research, innovative idea development, and project production processes, thanked the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Presidency of the Transport, Maritime, and Communication Research Center (UDHAM) for organizing this meaningful event that encourages young people's research and development activities.
