As part of the 20th-anniversary events at Kastamonu University, a Turkish Classical Music concert organized by our University's Academic Choir brought together art enthusiasts. The event, held on February 13, 2026, in the Sezai Karakoç Hall of the Central Library, drew a large turnout.
The concert, held publicly and free of charge, was attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, our academic and administrative staff, our students, and many residents of Kastamonu.
During the concert by our university's Academic Choir, selected works of Turkish classical music were performed. In the concert conducted by Prof. Dr. Sıtkı Akarsu, a faculty member of the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (GSTF), the choir, consisting of 26 choristers and 6 instrumentalists, presented 17 pieces from the Hicaz, Kürdi, Muhayyer Kürdi, and Kürdili Hicazkâr modes to the audience.
The teachers of the Orhan Şaik Gökyay Fine Arts High School were part of the orchestra at the concert. Giray Soğancı played the ud, Samet Çetiner played the violin, Sefa Karanmehmet played the wind instruments, Sedat Uçan and Emirhan Uzar played the rhythm instruments, and Onur Vergili played the keyboard.
The concert, organized as part of the 20th-anniversary events, brought together members of our University and the city's residents in the same hall. The event concluded with our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, presenting flowers to the concert conductor, Prof. Dr. Sıtkı Akarsu, and a photo session commemorating the day.
