Within the scope of the 2025 Family Year, a conference titled "Turkish Family Structure and Our Values" was organized under the auspices of the Kastamonu Governorship, in collaboration with the Kastamonu Family and Social Services Provincial Directorate and Kastamonu University. On May 16, 2025, the program held at the Kastamonu Public Education Center featured Prof. Dr. Saffet Köse, the Rector of İzmir Katip Çelebi University, as a speaker.
The conference was attended by Deputy Governor Aydın Ergün, Kastamonu member of parliament Deputy Halil Uluay, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, Provincial Director of Family and Social Services Harun Köksalan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, representatives of public institutions and organizations, and invited guests.
Speaking at the opening of the program, Family and Social Services Provincial Director Harun Köksalan provided information about the activities carried out throughout the year and emphasized the importance of initiatives aimed at supporting the family institution.
At the conference, Prof. Dr. Saffet Köse made evaluations on the role of the father in the family and the importance of the family institution in the social structure. He stated that the weakening of fatherhood and the insufficient fulfillment of the motherhood role are the most fundamental issues children face today. He emphasized that this situation has negative effects on children's development.
Touching on the responsibilities of parents, Köse stated that fathers play an important role in custody, while mothers take on significant responsibilities in the care, supervision, and upbringing of children. He stated that taking care of children, playing with them, and giving them responsibilities strengthen family bonds.
Stating that many problems could be resolved if parents fulfilled their duties properly, Köse thanked the participants for their interest.
