Our university hosts the University Sports Federation (TUSF) Unilig Boxing Türkiye Championship, which started on May 8, 2023. The competitions take place at the Ay Yildiz Sports and Life Center.
The opening ceremony of the competitions was held on 9th May, 2023 at our University's Ay Yıldız Sports and Life Center with the participation of our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal and President of the Turkish University Sports Federation Prof. Dr of Mehmet Günay.
The ceremony was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, President of the Turkish University Sports Federation, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mehmet Atalan, Prof. Dr. Kasım Yenigün and Prof. Dr. Ömer Küçük, academic and administrative staff and students.
In the ceremony that started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, the Head of Health, Culture and Sports at Yeditepe University, Turkish University Sports Federation Board Member Taner Karabulut and Federation Representative Istanbul Esenyurt University Assistant Professor Merve Uca took her place at the opening.
The opening speech of the ceremony, which started with the parade of the athletes, was delivered by the President of the Turkish University Sports Federation, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gunay.
Turkish University Sports Federation (TÜSF) President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay thanked our University for hosting and stated that the state aims great success by building such sports facilities for universities.
Reminding that the championship would receive a wider participation, but there were also athletes who lost their lives in the earthquake on 6th February, TUSF President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay emphasized that “he believes that they will achieve success in the field of sports again in October, the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey”.
TUSF President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay stated that the Ministry of Youth and Sports provides financial and moral support for successful students at universities to participate in national and international competitions. TUSF President, who stated that while support was provided in 6 branches before, today support was given to athletes in 53 branches, thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their support.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal, emphasizing the importance of sports in our lives, stated that as Kastamonu University, he is very proud and happy to host this organization.
Our Rector stated that they aim to participate more in such organizations with the opportunities offered by our University. He also expressed that the achievements of all teams in the championship will make history, and thanked all the participating athletes and wished them success.
After the speeches, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Topal and TUSF President Prof. Dr. Günay started a competition with the sound of gong, allowing the championship to begin.
A total of 144 athletes, including 62 teams, 107 male athletes and 37 female athletes, compete in the competitions. The championship will continue for 5 days.
